Derelict Analysis

Aurora System, coordinates 2901
also present: Lt. Cmdr. Jhamela, Ensign Hruska, Ensign Eric Roman

I was privileged enough to be included on a classified mission investigating a derelict spacecraft buried under the ice on Tithonus’s fifth major moon, Hector. It turned out to be a Carnivon, warp-capable, Fox-Destroyer-class starship which crashed about 15 years ago--2222. Few Carnivon bodies were present as most of the crew left in escape pods (under pursuit by Kzinti warships).

Fox Destroyer Class Star-Ship

I concerned myself mainly with the Carnivon ship’s power and weapon systems. The ship was warp capable, consistent with our intelligence that the Fox Destroyers were refitted sublight ships. The ship’s power systems were exhausted. It would have required more resources than we had available on the mission to power-up any of the ships major systems or subsystem.

The ships primary weapon systems were Death Bolts, Heal Nippers, and phasers. I did manage to recover elements of the Death Bolt and Heal Nipper weapon systems. I believe these weapon systems may be significantly different from our phaser and photon torpedo technology.

I recovered a computer element which I hope contains more data, but I’ve no idea what that data might be.

Much to my disappointment, the Carnivon ship was demolished by Ensign Roman upon completion of the mission.

Once back on Facility 2, Lt. Commander Jhamela graciously allowed us to assist her in analyzing recovered computer and navigational data. From this, we concluded that in 2222, this Carnivon ship was under the pursuit of three Kzinti ships. The Carnivon ship, all but destroyed, would eventually crash land on Hector. However, escape pods from the Carnivon ship did make it to Aurora III. Two of the the Kzinti ships broke off their pursuit of the Fox Destroyer, instead following the escape pods. It is possible there are Carnivon escape pods somewhere on Aurora III, although I doubt there are any surviving Carnivons. My guess is the Kzinti exterminated them all.

The Carnivons

I assisted Ensign Hruska in preparing two Carnivon corpses for the journey back to Facility 2 by putting them into vacc-suits. They were frozen solid and I accidentally broke the arm off one.

The Carnivons do look like dog people.

Hector

Hector does support some significantly evolved life forms. While there, a was able to see the Terran analog of a small pack of wolves. They seemed curious about what we were up to, but maintained their distance after phaser warming shots were fired. They showed up easily on a tricorder, but were very well camouflaged otherwise. I recommend any further away missions to Hector be issued hyperspectral goggles/video glasses.
