Operation: Clean Diamond

In 2032 Halon was contracted by a European mineral conglomerate to help deal with revolutionary and insurgent forces that were plaguing their mining operations in West Africa. Since that time, Halon has been engaged in a prolonged peacekeeping mission in this area, battling back insurgents and securing corporate mining and labor rights. The persistence of the insurgents was greatly underestimated by corporate analysts, and the corporate expenditures to stave off the violence, sabotage, and corruption have run well into the trillions of dollars. A seemingly endless stream of insurgent troops and weaponry are funneling in from all over West Africa, and mercenaries and insurgent allies have been recruited from Central Africa. Many believe the conflict is being spurred on by black market and tribal interests, but some anti-corporatists blame what they call the "harsh labor practices" of the European mineral companies. Whatever the case, no peaceful resolution to the conflict seems to be in sight.
