REPORT TO STAR FLEET

RE: CRASH OF FREE TRADER LION OF AIMAR ON REGALIA

STARDATE 3701.12

On 3701.12 the USS Merlin received a distress call from a freetrader designated “Lion of Aimar.” The ship had crashed on Regalia, a hot desert rock occupied by miners and an obscure religious cult. Merlin entered orbit around the planet and began a search and rescue operation.

Ensign Atomsk and I were assigned to search a segment of the terrain. Ensign Travers, who was flying a search grid over our area, instructed us to travel 1K west. There we found the wreckage of the free trader. The hull was broken. There was no activity.

Ensign Atomsk and I entered the ship through the broken hull. We found the remains of several crewmembers. Blood appeared to have been painted on the walls. It was a slaughter. We detected life signs outside the ship and went to investigate.

While our tricorders seemed to show the presence of 2-3 individuals atop a nearby san dune, we were unable to actually see anyone. Investigating closely, Ensign Atomsk became engaged in physical combat with one of the individuals. I convinced them to stand down and assist us in our peaceful mission.

The individuals revealed themselves. They appeared to wear a personal cloaking device. They claimed to be members of the Science of Mind, a reclusive religious group on Regalia. Starfleet has very little information on this group, so I attempted to form an allegiance and gain information. They were however very reticent. They did assist in keeping the free trader from sinking into the desert sand, giving us time to completely download the ships logs and other relevant information.
