Abaddon occupies the whole of the southern peninsula of Atl. While the northern lands are mostly harsh desert and arid plains, the southern half of the peninsula is largely a supremely rich and fertile geography. The southern climate is warm and moist, fed by winds from the Great Sea. Southern Abaddon is known for its wines, exotic fruits, and unique craftsmanship, particularly its jewelry and metalwork. The harsher climate of the north has led to the development of an almost separate culture. The largely nomadic and tribal culture of the north practices horsemanship and adheres to a long warrior tradition.

Abaddon also has a long tradition of swordsmanship, with metalsmiths whose crafting skills are said to surpass the old masters of Midian. Knifemaking is an ancient tradition, as knives are an important symbol and ritual tool within the religious practice of Abaddon. Almost every citizen of Abaddon carries a knife, worn openly on display. Those who can afford to are not hesitant to spend a small fortune on their knife, and especially ornamental knives are passed down from generation to generation.

Firearms are uncommon among the people of Abaddon, as both religion and tradition forbid their use. Criminals and other outlaws are largely the only inhabitants of Abaddon who use firearms. There is no local production of firearms: all firearms present in Abaddon are not only imported, but technically illegal.

For the most part, the inhabitants of Abaddon prefer to have no contact with outsiders. However there have been occasions in the past where there was conflict between Abaddon and a bordering nation. Naval conflict between Abaddon and Midian has erupted sporadically over the centuries, largely due to issues of controlling the Straits of Pan. When the nation of Deseret was formed, there were a number of small but violent conflicts along the border with Abaddon.
