The Laniakea Supercluster is the home galactic supercluster for the human race. The Laniakea Supercluster comprises the Virgo Supercluster, the Hydra-Centaurus Supercluster, The Pavo-Indus Supercluster, and the Southern Supercluster. These galactic groupings, once thought to be separate, are now understood to be part of the greater entity known as Laniakea. Laniakea encompasses some 100,000 galaxies over a space of 520 million lightyears, or 160 megaparsecs. For reference, the distance between the Milky Way Galaxy and the Andromeda Galaxy is approximately 780 kiloparsecs, or about 0.5% of the distance of the entire Laniakea supercluster. Of these 100,000 galaxies that compose the Laniakea Supercluster, only about 5,000 are large, with the remainder being dwarf galaxies. There are roughly 400 trillion stars in the Laniakea Supercluster.

Beyond Laniakea

The Perseus-Pisces Supercluster is the second most populous supercluster in terms of the spread of human civilization, which was first reached when humans found a path around the Taurus Void approximately 1,200 years ago to reach Perseus-Pisces, which has sometimes been referred to as Laniakea's twin or mirror. More recently, the Hydra Supercluster was reached by explorers, and colonization began there approximately 300 years ago. At present, recent explorers have found a path around the Northern Local Supervoid to the Coma Supercluster, and colonization is in its initial phases, with architects preparing candidate stars for inhabitation.
