Food processors

The creation of food processors revolutionized life in the City. It is said that IAM devised these wonderful machines, a miraculous achievement for IAM and the citizens of the City.

Food processors create and re-process food. Food is created from a synthetic protein-carbohydrate compound that can be shaped and processed into any known food. This product is not a facsimile or other simulation of the food: the process converts the synthetic compound into the actual food item. A hamburger created in this process is an actual hamburger, not a "fake-burger" as many Naturalists and WWFers call it. An additional benefit is that food created in a food processor can be re-processed, the food item broken down and return to the basic synthetic compound, which can then be re-created into a completely different food item.

Because of the omnipresence of food processor terminals, almost no one in the City actually cooks food any more. Those skilled at "cooking" are generally creative sorts who have derived a number of fancy creations and odd combinations using a food processor. For example, a young woman in Beta Burb create a chicken-flavored ice cream that is eaten in a cone made of crystallized honeybees.
