Sombrero Galaxy
The Sombrero Galaxy is an unbarred spiral galaxy and former quasar, named for its similarity to an ancient article of Mexican headwear when viewed from the Milky Way Galaxy. It houses a class 9 black hole, and is considered to have an active galactic nucleus. Despite its massive black hole, which was the first class 9 black hole reached by humans, the galaxy is fairly small in terms of radius and, because of the galaxy's intense luminosity and the exotic forms of radiation that permeate it, it is largely unsuitable for life. A handful of colonies exist in the galaxy, and the populations of those comprise primarily various species of parahumans that are suited to live in the galaxy's unusual conditions. Several military and scientific facilities are positioned within the galaxy's nucleus, as it is of particular interest to scientists as a quasar remnant, and it represents a strategically advantageous anchor for gravity drive travel.
The ranking human officer in the Sombrero Galaxy is Admiral Yaro Boone.
