The Murragh

The Murragh lies along the shore, extending north about 25 km (15 mi) from Wycklow harbor up to Baile an Chinnéidigh. It is a long sandy stretch of land with a steep climb that begins at the western portion of the Murragh, but the eastern third is level and low to the sea. This long approach and sudden climb have long protected Wycklow from sea pirates. Near the docks there is a shantytown of various races, most of whom work the ships and the docks. This community, also called the Murragh, is attacked from time to time by buccaneers.
