Carl Kolchak
Born Karel Kolchak (May 7, 1922), Carl Kolchak is the only son of Los Angeles police detective Karel Kolchak and his wife Grace. Fascinated by his father's stories, he became a journalist after graduating from the University of Southern California in 1943. He worked for newspaper in New York, Detroit, Chicago, and Las Vegas before returning to Los Angeles in 1950. He became the war correspondent for the Angel City Times in 1951. In 1952 he returned to Chicago where he became the lead crime reporter for the Chicago Tribune. In 1960 he returned to Los Angeles and became the lead crime reporter for the Angel City Times.
