Patient Overview

Patient #6783, herein referred to as "Caroline", grew up with her parents in Osaka, Japan. Upon her father receiving a promotion, the family moved to Miami, Florida including her mother and sister. There, Caroline excelled at her studies, graduating second in her class in High School and graduating Magna Cum-Laude from University of Florida. She finished her medical degree within three years at Harvard, returning to Florida to finish her residency.

According to Caroline, her home life was below average. Her mother suffered many ailments of the mind and her father was a harsh disciplinarian. The patient feels her father held a grudge for having two daughters and no sons. Further questions about her family often trigger a transition [PSYCHOLOGIST NOTE: Refrain from further questioning unless the patient has received a mild sedative].

At 28, the patient came home to find her family slaughtered. Police investigations conclude that this was a case of murder-suicide. The father, for unknown reasons, executed the mother and sister and then himself. This has had lasting effects on the patients psyche and probing is not recommended until later phases of treatment.

Several months later, her contact, Yumi Nakamura, admitted her into our facility. Yumi claims Caroline has exhibited odd behavior since the incident. The contact's description of Caroline's behavior fits the DSM-V description of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Unfortunately, treatments for such cases have been mildly successful at best. We will begin treatment immediately, and hope for more than the best.

Psychologist Log: Patient #6783

2-18-35: First interview with patient. Patient seems calm and collected. Appears upset having been admitted into psychiatric care. Repeatedly asked to be released. We will keep her for another 24 hours, but if nothing changes she will be free to go.

2-19-35: Second interview with patient. Appeared extremely agitated by current circumstances. About an hour into the interview, patient began claiming she was "Yumi Nakamura", her contact. Patients disposition became more amiable and excited by the world around her. I caught her poking through my drawer when I left the office for a moment. Future note: Do not leave patient unsupervised.

2-25-35: Patient somehow escaped from her cell and injected a mild sedative into one of our workers. When asked why she would do such a thing, the patient responded that "it seemed like it would be pretty funny." When asked if it was funny, patient answered affirmatively. Observation: While in this state of mind, patient appears more likely to use certain innate abilities. Additionally, her medical knowledge appears to span both states. Addendum: Worker is unharmed, though slightly woozy. Further proof of the aforementioned.

3-02-35: I began today's interview by asking "Yumi" what she remembered of the death of her family. Patient had no recollection, but further pressing triggered a second transition. However, it appears that this was into an entirely different state, or "personality" as I will call them. Said personality refers to herself as "Maria Suarez." Further investigation revealed this to be the name of the worker she incapacitated a week prior.

6-14-35: Several months into the patient's treatment and we are getting nowhere fast. Though cooperative enough, patient's current personality refuses to believe she is in a psychiatric ward. It is impossible to get her to talk to authority. Peer counseling may be the way to go here.

8-19-35: Success! Group counseling has proven extremely effective in the patient's treatment. In fact, just today we managed to get her to revert back to "Caroline". Patient appeared to have a fuzzy recollection of events, but does not believe she has a split personality. Instead she refers to them as "moods". Still, it's a start.

1-31-36: After many strides in the patient's treatment, I'm afraid we're back at square one. Without provocation, the patient has savagely beaten one of the other patients. A moderate sedative was administered, but unfortunately we were too late. The victim will survive, but will most likely never fully recover. It is this psychologist's professional opinion that this patient be moved to the maximum security wing.

6-09-36: More than a year has passed since treatment began and things look bleaker than they did before. Though there have been no further incidents, the patient has maintained these antisocial tendencies for more than four months. I discovered the name for this personality too. "Jack Smith". The same fake name I use when working with patients. Almost hilarious, really. We've attempted to administer anti-psychotics to the patient, but she (or rather "he") refuses to take them. We will try crushing them and putting them in his food.

6-12-36: A thought occurred to me. An inspiration. These three personalities she exhibits are like caricatures of her deceased family. It's so obvious now. We will re-organize treatment with this in mind.

9-07-36: The anti-psychotics have taken affect. The patient has returned to her normal state. We will have to take advantage of this post-haste.

9-08-36: I interviewed the patient about the death of her family. Though in denial at first, a certain amount of acceptance washed over the patients face. However, this triggered a violent transition. The patient must have cycled through each personality two or more times before a nurse administered a mild sedative.

12-25-36: A merry Christmas indeed! Since the interview in September, the patient has shown remarkable improvement. She can discuss her family without transition, and the behaviors of those personalities have become fainter and fainter. It won't be long until she has fully integrated and may walk out of here to pursue her career.

6-03-37: The patient hasn't transitioned in two weeks. We will keep her for another year, but barring extraordinary circumstances she should be fine to go. The patient has even taken up assisting the nurses. She will make a fine doctor.

6-03-38: After three years I'm proud to say Ms. Onigawa is a cornerstone of D.I.D treatment. We hope she will have a successful career, fully collected with her realized self. We have advised her to look into Azimuth's Brighter Future program. It's this psychologist's opinion that she would do very well. Although... I can't help but have a nagging feeling that this success may only be temporary. It is uncertain what could happen should another traumatic event arise but... hopefully she will be spared this duress.

Caroline's Log

??-??-2045: Last thing I remember was joining the Brighter Future program. Next thing I know I'm waking up at the bottom of the ocean after the nuclear apocalypse. I'm not too sure what to make of all this. Apparently I'm one of four people who can withstand the radiation outside? It's all too much. What's worse is two of these people (male I might add) sound like greedy scumbags. But they need my help, and I just can't say no to that. I guess I have a soft spot for "fixer-uppers."

??-??-2045: These guys sound way too comfortable with being abducted against their will. What is this place anyway? Is this something I'm going to have to get used to as well? They seem to hold grudges against this "Sarah McKillup" woman, but she seems nice enough to me. Only time will tell if first impressions will give way to true colors, I suppose.

??-??-2045: Algae algae and more algae. At least it's tasty algae.

??-??-2045: We've got our first mission. We have to destroy some bizarre egg monstrosity and blow up a communication device. I... honestly don't know if I can do this. I mean, I'm a doctor. I don't hurt things, I help them. But I must. For the good of the human race.

??-??-2045: Well we completed the mission and headed down to a bunker Kozmo found in the mountains. We had a few close calls but managed to evade the egg thing's support. I passed out and had to be carried around. How embarrassing! Hopefully I can redeem myself now. I'll be heading to a cave that I think might hold a ventilation shaft. If we find life here, we just might be able to save them!

Yumi's Diary (NO PEEKING!) (That means you!!)

??-??-2045: There are so many cool people here on Thaumus 1! Today I met Kozmo who has some really cool tattoos and Jack who's going to be president someday and Wila who's like a super cool bodyguard! And soon I'm going to meet Walter who's some kind of superhero or something! I'm so excited!

??-??-2045: Today we're going to go fight some more monsters and rescue the people outside! Soon I'll be a superhero too! Well, I guess I don't have any superpowers, but still!

Jack's Journal

??-??-2045: A bunch of weirdos showed up at my door today, thinking I could help them. Yeah I got something that could help 'em alright.

??-??-2045: Somebody is following me. They better stop unless they want the survivor count to decrease to 29,999.

??-??-2045: These two queers keep popping up and bugging me. I guess I'm part of some team their on or something. But I'm not part of no team, they'll learn that soon enough.
