Most of these racial descriptions are excerpts/edits from GURPS Prime Directive published by the Amarillo Design Bureau. If you're a PC making a character, I encourage you to play a human, but you are not restricted to playing a human. In fact, having an alien in the party might be nice.

The Vulcans are descended from a much more primitive and warlike race. The Vulcans are basically a pacifistic people who do not believe in the assertive use of overwhelming force to resolve disputes. Their cultural devotion to pure logic at the cost of greatly repressing their emotional identity is well known.

Rigellians are large humanoids renowned for their strength and stamina. Rigellians are strongly bound by the notions of “Family and Honor”. Rigellians have, by far, the largest proportion of their population in service with the Federation.

Alpha-Centaurans are almost identical to Humans, but have a markedly higher general motor response. Although the males are not mentally or physically inferior to the women, the females dominate Alpha-Centauran culture at all levels.

Prellarians are a squat humanoid race, at home in tunnels, rarely growing to a height greater than 4’ (SM-1). An Associate Member of the Federation, Prellarians are renowned for their mastery of high-grav and null-grav technology. They have a deeply ingrained fear of heights and an almost religious appreciation of many minerals and gems.

Arcturians rarely exceed 5’6”, average about 120 lbs., and look like Elves from Human folklore. All Arcturians in Star Fleet are trained in Sincaht, an Arcturian martial art. Very, very, few Arcturians have any psionic ability; those that do are treated as genetic freaks by other Arcturians.

An Associate Member of the Federation, the Mynieni (pronounced my-NINE-ee) resemble 3’ tall (SM-1), purplish-gray, upside-down pears sprouting 24 strong ropy tendrils for legs and hundreds of cilial limbs for arms. Being nocturnal, their 10” diameter eyes prefer starlight (-8 darkness levels) and take a second to adjust to sudden changes in light.
