The Necromancer Guild is one of the few professional organizations for practicing magicians that is organized by specialty. The various mundane laws and human customs governing the treatment of the dead and their remains make it necessary for necromancers to unite as a single international guild. Nearly every city or town has at least one necromancer in it, who must by decree belong to the guild. Only members of the guild will be given the legal protection and representation eventually needed by most necromancers. It is only a matter of time before any necromancer is accused of grave-robbing, or worse: necrophilia. Most of the accusations are of course false, but even false accusations result in months, even years of persecution from small-minded members of the local community. While there is a great deal of crossover between necromancers and undertakers, there is no certain way to contact a reputable necromancer. However, merely inquiring in magical circles about the craft of necromancers and letting it be known that you are seeking the services of a necromancer will summon one, who will show up at your doorstep within 24 hours. Beware: once you have summoned a necromancer, you owe their fee, and it is often steep.
